We have been backing up large amounts of data monthly on QNAP NAS, but HDD-based data backup faced the problem of capacity limitation. In addition, physical space expansion was limited and off-site store was also difficult. Therefore, we have decided to use LTO tape which can store large amounts of data(12TB<uncompressed>/30TB <compressed> per roll) for a long period at a space-saving off-site location and can increase storage data infinitely by shelf management.
Reasons for choosing USB-LTO drive
The most decisive factor in introducing USB-LTO drive was the convenience of being able to connect it directly to QNAP NAS with a USB cable. All LTO drives except UNITEX LTO drive are SAS interface requiring the purchase of a SAS card and compatibility test between QNAP NAS and LTO drive via a SAS card. On the other hand, UNITEX USB-LTO drive can be utilized with a simple USB connection.
